Work placement report



Where? Printmedia , swan street Wollongong

Work placement at printmedia showed me the potential job pathway in the print industry and graphics design.

At my one-day work placement I started off in the editing and processing sector where the graphics designer of printmedia Rinaki Petrohilos showed me some of her work and a few tasks she had to do on the day. The fist job was a re-editing of a business card names and dates where changed than sent through a pre press. The business cards were than sent through a (Konica) High Definition Laser printer. An error was made with the paper quality it was ment to be 300gsm presteage board but was incorrectly printed on colour copy.


After lunch Rinaki gave me a task to do, she asked me to re-do PRINTMEDIAS business card so I would learn how to use Mac, Adobe Illustrator and Photo shop CS3.



After this we walked to the warehouse out the back where all the industrial printers were set. I was taken through the printing process.

After a job has been edited and created it is taken to the pre-press where it is than created on a plate that’s used for the large industrial printers the printers used CMYK colour systems that allow the options of board to be printed on such as mat, gloss, uncoated board, silk, satin and many more. After the jobs have been printed they are left dry than cut to size with a guillotine.
